If you think about it, it blocks some of your forward vision and is distracting. Things can fly around the inside of the car during quick stops and manuevers too. Make sure the spare tire, jack and wheel lug wrench are in the trunk. A flashlight could be useful as well as storing an extra spare key you have made somewhere on or in the car in case you lock yourself out. Take time to read a little in your owner's manual about the car and how to maintain it.
