What is a good car seat that will hold to 100 pounds?
We have a travel system (car seat for infants + stroller) and we will eventually have to buy a car seat for bigger kids.
Most car seats hold up to 4o to 65 pounds… but someone told us that some car seats will hold to 100 pounds.
Do you know of a good car seat that will hold to 100 pounds? We have a big baby and we want the seat to last as long as possible.

The problem with going up to 100 pounds, is you will also have to consider height. So unless you plan on having short and wide kids, you may not want to go that high, as the straps simply wouldnt start high enough.
We chose our carseat, for one that looked comfy for sleeping, as we take lots of longer weekend trips. And are pretty happy with the Recaro Young Sport – goes up to 80. Then have the Recaro Vivo for our older son, which has the back booster, and that back can be taken off for a regular booster.
both are great for sleeping as the headrest for side impact protection is in the perfect spot. In our old evenflo triumphs, which I also liked when the were lttler, when they got bigger, their heads kindof flopped over when sleeping.

Eddie Bauer is awful–it only holds your child to 40 lbs in the 5 pt harness and 80 after that. I don’t know of any 5 pt harness that holds to 100 lbs and I’ve done extensive research on car seats. Boosters will hold to 100 lbs, but I wouldn’t use one until after the 80 lbs, anyway. I’d go with the Sunshine Kids Radian 80 seat or the Britax Regent. Both will hold your child to 80 lbs in a 5 pt harness with great straps that won’t twist and are very durable with a steel frame instead of plastic like the other brands.

it will be along time before your child is needing a car seat to hold 100 pounds if you just had a baby.

to be honest your best bet is to go to a shop that has car seat trained advisers like toys ‘r’us or halfolds but if you can find a car seat only shop it will be better as sometimes the type of seat you have depends on your make/model of car . don’t be tempted to buy one second hand tho as you won’t know if it has been in a crash. after all the price of a car seat is nothing compared to your baby/child’s life

Evenflo’s Generation Booster Seat. It is new and hold from 20lbs. to 100lbs. There is also another one, but I can’t remember the exact name. It is something like Ritron 80 or Ritian 80. I am sorry I can’t remember the exact name, but those are the only two I have heard of that hold to 100lbs.
I just found a web site for you. Elitecarseats.com
They have a whole list of choices.

I understand your desire, but I don’t think you’ll need it. How long are you wanting your child to sit in a car seat? Taller children may reach 100 pounds sooner than shorter children, but then the height would be too tall for the seat anyway. Leaner children may not reach 100 pounds until they are 12+ (some lean adults are just over the 100 pound mark). Heavier children will reach that weight sooner, but chances are your child won’t be 100 pounds until he/she is 10 at the youngest. Will you want your 10 year old riding in a 5 point harness car seat, and will your 10 year old want to be in it? Unless you have an obese or 5 foot tall 8 year old, your child will outgrow the need for a car seat long before he/she reaches 100 pounds.
The Safety 1st Intera will support up to 100 pounds.

The only convertible carseats that say they hold to 100lbs are the 3-in-1 style seats. You do NOT want one of these. They have super low top harness slots and only harness to 40lbs. You would be much better off going with a Britax Marathon, Decathalon, or Boulevard; Evenflo Triumph Advance or Sunshine Kids Radian. They harness to 50-65lbs and have tall enough shells to see most children to at least 4 years, most longer.

Try looking at the Britax Frontier (goes from a car seat, 25 lbs to 80 lbs, and is also a booster seat from 40 to 100 lbs)–expensive, but worth it to many people.

Your other choice is to step up from the infant seat to a car seat that goes up to about 65 lbs, then switch to a booster seat after that. You may want, to do this, if you have another child after this one. They may not be as big as the first and may be able to use the second seat longer.
