So im driving my cousin 200 miles home and 50 miles into it, i see a BMW 2002 sitting at in a parking lot at some place. on the way home i pray its still there. it was. so i stop by and take a look, because what BMW enthusiast wouldnt want to be up close to the holy grail that the 2002 is. to my shock, its for sale.

sure i figure i cant afford it, and the only other 2002 i ever saw was a 74 that the guy fixed up pretty nice and it would go for alot of money. but this one says 0 on the windshield. right away its a steal. it says it still runs, but that would amaze the hell out of me because of the neglected condition its in. the inspection ran out in ’03, and it looks like its been sitting since then. i didnt see under the hood cuz the place is only open wednesdays-fridays. theres rust on the rear fender about the size of a dollar and looks to be rusted all the way through about the size off a quarter. all the rims are rusted, and its missing like 4 out of the 6 chrome strips down the waistline. and the interior could be better. the drivers seat is missing a chunk out of the one bolster.

but all the light covers, glass, and body panels, except for that little bit of rust, are solid and not dented or cracked. i looked the best i could under the car (they just mow the grass around the car) and nothings hanging down. theres a little rust on the chassis next to the front passenger wheel, but other than that it looks to be pretty solid. i have no problem spending 0 on it if it still starts and can drive in a circle, but whats the lowest i could bargain for if it doesnt start, and if it does start, but doesnt move. i dont know if the guy knows what he has. but if hes a BMW enthusiast like me, whats the lowest i could ask for without ripping him off? im 19, been in love with BMWs since i was 9, and i drive a cavalier. sure id love an E46 or fix up an E30, but this… this is the ultimate fixer upper project car. i cant sleep thinking about what it would be like to bring this iconic car home.

Does Size Matter When it Comes to Custom Rims and Tires?

Yes it does. However, before one delves further into the subject, one has to understand tire codes. Altering a vehicle’s tire sizes, unlike customizing truck floor mats, dashboard covers, and car seat covers, is not something to be taken lightly.

Unfortunately, a lot of people can’t make heads or tails out of the codes labeled on their tires and therefore do not know what “P225/50R16 91S” means. Tire codes are very important if one intends to change his or her vehicles tires. Unlike changing truck floor mats, changing tires without knowledge of what one is doing could bring about adverse affects. Here’s a breakdown of the sample tire codes:

•   The “P” means the tire is meant for passenger vehicles like mini vans cars, small trucks, and SUVs.
•   The “225” is the measurement of the widest point of the tire’s outer sidewall to the widest point of its inner sidewall when installed.
•   The “50” is the percent of the sidewall height relative to the width. (In this example, since the width is 225 millimeters, the sidewall height from the rim to the tread is 112.5mm)
•   The “R” denotes how the internal construction of the tire was fabricated. In this example, “R” means radial.
•   The “16” is the size of the rim.
•   The “91S” is the service description of the tires. The “91” is the number that rates how much load the tires can handle. (The “91” in this example means that the tire can handle 1356 pounds.) The bigger the number, the greater the tire’s capacity.
•   The “S” is the tire’s speed rating. (An “S” speed rating denotes that the tire can operate safely at speeds up to 112 miles per hour. The further down the alphabet, the higher the velocities that are safe for the tire.)

So what does this all mean? Typically, a car that’s made for speed will have a wider width with a low alphabet letter (generally W, Y, or Z) and a low percentage of sidewall for optimal handling and steering capabilities. A passenger vehicle, meanwhile, will have a medium width and a higher percentage of sidewall for a more luxurious style.

Tinkering with tires without knowledge about tire sizes is a dangerous thing to do. Here are some of the reasons:

•   Odometers and speedometers are calibrated based on the height of a vehicle’s tires. Taller tires make speedometers read slower than the actual speed of the vehicle.
•   More recent vehicles have built-in computers that base calculations on the height of a vehicle’s tires. Changing tires could result to a vehicle’s components malfunctioning.
•   Stock suspension systems could suffer additional stress with taller tires, resulting in accelerated wear, tear, and/or failure. If one makes substantial changes in tire height, one should upgrade and bolster the vehicle’s stock suspension.

Below is a list of different tire sizes and what vehicle classes should use them.

•   34″ x 8″ – Class “A” Motorhome
•   31-1/4″ x 12″ – Class “C” Motorhome
•   30 3/4″ x 10″ – Isuzu Rodeo, Honda Passport
•   29-3/4″ x 8″ – Blazer II 4X4, Jeep Wagoneer
•   30″ x 10″ – Jeep Liberty
•   29″ x 8″ – Econoline 150 GM ½ Ton, Dodge Raider, Chevy Van
•   35″ x 12 -1/2″ – Hummer H2
•   27″ x 8″ – S10 Blazer, Cherokee Laredo 4X4, GMC S15, Honda CRV
•   25-1/2″ x 8″ = M – Astro, Safari, Geo Tracker
•   24″ x 8″ – Pop-up Campers
•   21 1/2″ x 8″ – Pop-up Campers
•   32-1/4″ x 12″ – Off Road Extra Wide Tires

I am looking to buy a new car and have narrowed it down to specific cars. I just want your opinions on what you think! Both are around the same price OTD and have a clean title. I am a college student, only working part time, so I won’t be able to afford anything more extravagant than what I have listed below.

1. Mazda Mazda 3 Sedan
Color: Blue
Year: 2005
Miles: about 60k
Interior: Black Leather (no seat heaters)
This is the touring edition with the 2.3 engine, larger rims, pretty new tires, 6 disc in dash CD player, fog lights, leather wrapped steering wheel.
I love the inside of this car, I also like the larger engine (I drive quite a few huge hills every day on my commute) I am not a huge fan of driving a bright blue car but the color is growing on me, and it seems like EVERY girl drives a Mazda 3, I don’t want to be just another girl in a Mazda. I am also worried about the age of the car.

2. Nissan Versa S Hatchback
Color: White
Year: 2009
Miles: about 20k
Interior: Beige Microfiber
This is pretty much the base model with the exception of the 1.8 engine and CD player. Tires with hubcaps, no center console/armrest. I LOVE the way this car looks on the outside, it’s different and unusual and really cute! I also like that it is a newer car and has a factory warranty on it. The one thing I would change is that it’s lacking storage space. I also would buy new rims and tint the windows.

What are your thoughts? Mostly the year is making me hesitant on the Mazda, and the lack of storage is making me hesitant on the Versa.

why do most people who own newer trucks nowadays have horrible features on them?
the first most important and worst of all is the four door short bed type truck. are you trying to haul things in your bed or have legroom four your guys. back in the old days like the 80s, trucks had 8 ft beds, not 4 or 5ft.
next is the toolbox on the back…
my rule is never compromise space in the bed for ANYTHING!!!!!
also what’s with step sides? don’t you losers realize how much space you are losing? Why WHY WHY!!!!???!!!!
also bed flat covers suck. you cant stack things up anymore like you can if it wasn’t there.
campers suck too. how are you supposed to get things like gravel in there? with a shovel? yeah right, you’ll need a bulldozer to dump it in.
and another thing, don’t put rims on your truck. trucks were made for work, not show, but i guess people have forgot that

now to the question… if you have good reasons for that stuff, let me know.. I would also like to see if anyone agrees with me. call me old fashioned, but i would drive my 81 gmc sierra grande single cab long bed over one of today’s girly trucks.

btw MEN DONT NEED LEATHER SEATS THAT ARE HEATED, AND GPS SYSTEMS. not to be sexist, but that’s all womanly things
