the story here is that i was in the passenger seat of my friend’s car while she was driving to her hometown. it was the middle of the day and this stupid girl in another car decided to try to make a left turn as we were coming straight at her. my friend couldn’t get her car to stop on time so we ended up hitting her and it was a pretty bad accident. we had to go to the hospital and get checked out. so a few months after that i got a letter in the mail asking for a payment of 0.00 for the ambulance truck that showed up first to check us out. i decided just to go ahead and pay for it (mostly because the emt was my friend’s cousin…we were in a small town). and as far as my friend and her family knew the other girl’s, who was at fault of the accident, insurance was supposed to cover everything else like our hospital bills. so now i’m getting a letter from an actual debt collector saying i need to pay over 0 for the hospital visit or it’s going to screw up my credit. but it sucks because that other girl’s insurance was supposed to take care of all of that. so i’m being told by a lot of people just not to pay it. but will it really mess up my credit that badly? i know nothing about that sort of thing, but i do know that you need to have some sort of credit to get an apartment (which is something i’m trying to do with my boyfriend soon) and dont want this whole hospital thing to seriously hurt my credit bad enough to wear it could ruin that plan. please someone explain to me what could happen if i dont pay that 0 and if it will really hurt my credit as bad as they’re saying it will

hi! i was in a car accident on Nov.8th in Maine. we were all stopped at a light and some lady without insurance blasted the guy behind me, which in turn caused a 5 car accident with me in the middle. from the impact from the back and the the front, my hat ended up in the back seat and i had immediate back pain. i went to the chiropractor the next day and got x-rays. it pushed 2 of my vertabrae together (casuing headaches) and somehow shifted my hip, making one leg shorter than the other. i was goin to the chiro 3 times a week, then 2 times a week, then 1, over the course of the last 3 months. i just got released Monday, but feel its not quite over. my car insurance has fixed my car, paid my medical bills and i am now dealing with an uninsured motorist claim with them, and they are seriously low balling me. my car repairs were 00 and my chiro bill was about 00. i did not loose any time at work, cuz i am the ONLY worker.i cook for 20 college guys at a frat house, so i HAD to work. i worked, stooped, lifted and everything that comes with gettin groceries, putting away the food truck order and was unable to do ANY cleaning for the 1st month. the 1st 2-3 weeks after the accident were the absolute worse trying to work. they offered me 00 and my coverage covers about 4 more chiro appointments. i wa stold if i take it to small claims, i can get upto 00. so isjut need to know how much i should settle for. thank you for your time.

My husband was involved in a car accident a few days ago, it was his fault and hit a parked car on accident. He was so freaked out about what happened that he came straight home. I then called the police and reported what had happened and why he came home. The police said that it was called in as a hit and run unless we returned to the scene right away. We did, and my husband told the people we would pay for anything the insurance wouldn’t cover. We got screwed on our part and had to pay 6,000 worth of damage to our truck, we had only liability on the truck. Our insurance company said their damage was ,200.00. We would owe 0 to the people since our policy for collision was only 5 grand. Now the people are really upset and took it upon themselves to get a rental car that seats 8 people (their car that my husband hit was a suburban). My question is would I still be responsible for the rental car even if their car was still drivable at the time? I am willing to pay for their damage and expenses, but do not want to get screwed over. Also, they have told our insurance that it has been 10 and their car is still not fixed. We are planning on asking the other people if it was absolutely necessary to get a rental or wait until the received the necessary parts at the body shop before getting their rental car. Please if anyone has any suggestion I would appreciate it. Like I said I am willing to pay, but I don’t want to get screwed in the end.
Also, the police said when we returned at the scene that the people did not want to press charges since my husband came back, if they take us to court can they change their minds?

I was in a car accident today in Michigan, where I live. We were going down a 2-way 4-lane road in the left lane. There is no center turning lane. We had stopped for a car in front of us who was waiting to make a left turn over a double yellow. We were sitting there waiting for this car to turn as we couldn’t make our way over to the right lane to go around due to traffic, & next thing thing you know we were rear-ended by a guy in a truck. My car is a 1994 Dodge Shadow ES. The back end is smashed in really bad up to the back seat and the back window shattered. So it’s just the trunk thats been compressed. It is however no longer legally drivable (no lights, no bumper, no way to fit a new window in, tires are in contact with the smashed metal). The siding is pretty messed up due the impact as you cant open any of the doors. Everyone’s alright, though my sister, who happened to be driving, was taken into the hospital by the ambulance just to make sure there was no damage because she was feeling pain in her neck & back. Shes ok. I just want to know where to go from now legally as far as my losses with the vehicle & expenses put into it.
I’m at no fault. From what I was told, the kid has plpd insurance? I have really no fault insurance (?) Not sure what kind. (Though I should, shouldnt I?) The car is no longer legally drivable. So I’m basically out of a car. The police had it towed and he said it doesn’t cost me anything, but shouldn’t it if I wanted to take it out and have it towed back to my house? Its BS that they didnt let me figure out the towing myself if they are going to charge me for release..
Other than that I’m concerned about getting back the losses from the guy thats responsible..
The vehicle is retailed at no more than 00, but 00 has been put into it in the last year. I also have 2 amps, a subwoofer, and 2 speakers that due to him rear-ending me I may be losing out on (Ill see when I check the damages tomorrow). That stuff is only about 1 1/2 years old and if I replaced it today with the same brand & model it would cost me over 00. But, how crucial is it for me to have receipts for proof of the value since I don’t have them anymore. I bought it all offline and might not be able to recover it. But it was all new when I bought it, and you can easily look up the retail value today, which is the same as when I bought it.
Also, if I can’t get any transportation I will miss school which is currently being fully covered by FAFSA (govt. financial aid), but I’d be losing out on the grants they’ve given me (if I have to take these classes over it will then have to come out of my pocket, and I cant afford any of this right now as it is).
Anyways, please tell me what you think. Sorry for the long explanation, I just want it to be thorough to get more reliable responses to my situation. Thanks.

Join the Drive for Quality Car Insurance

Your car is probably one of your most expensive, or at the very least, beloved assets so it pays to insure it with a quality insurance company; one that appreciates your business and treats you with respect and as a valued customer, rather than just another sale.

Of course, as well as asset protection, it is also a legal obligation to be adequately insured before driving on UK roads. But, legislation is there to protect other road users not the driver of the vehicle. The type of insurance that adheres to the minimum legal requirement is third party only, but most people opt for third party with fire and theft cover, or buy fully comprehensive cover which also covers the owner’s vehicle.

Although there are three main types of car insurance there is still room for a massive variation in the cost of premiums depending upon the car owner’s individual circumstances. Age affects the amount of premium paid, as does driving experience and previous claims history, so different people will pay a different price for the same policy. In addition, the age and condition of the vehicle and where it is left overnight will also be taken into consideration when it comes to calculating the premium.

To be safe in the knowledge that the car insurance policy that you are considering buying is offered by a quality company check the number of awards it has received from independent evaluators. For example, Defaqto is an independent financial research company that evaluates insurance products based on a number of factors including how the product compares to its others in its category. A five-star award means that a car insurance policy offers the best you can get, offering more than similar products.

Often this is because – not only are premiums competitive – but a raft of extra benefits are also offered such as courtesy cars provided in the case of written-off vehicles, or cover for audio equipment and child seats contained within the vehicle. In addition to what’s available in the case of a claim, it is also important that you have access to your insurance company 24/7 as accidents don’t always happen during office hours Monday to Friday.

Finally, if you are looking to save money consider buying your car insurance policy online from a quality company that offers discounts for purchases over the web. Reductions of up to 10% are not uncommon and mean that you get over a month’s motoring for free!

Updating Your Car Insurance Coverage To Reflect Vehicle Upgrades

If you intend to own your car for one or two years, you will probably make some upgrades. For instance, you may have a new stereo system installed to replace the first unit or chrome fenders to improve the look. Most upgrades have an effect on your auto insurance rates.

Here you can learn the difference between general upgrades, performance upgrades, and aethetic upgrades. We’ll then explain why many auto insurance companies are loathe to cover many types of modifications. When they decide to, the coverage offered may be subject higher rates and less flexibility; you’ll discover why below.

“Typical” Modifications Versus Performance Upgrades

If you plan to own your vehicle for several years, you’ll likely make a few upgrades over time. That’s normal. For example, you might have a new stereo system installed to replace the original unit. Or, you might want an in-vehicle DVD entertainment system in your SUV. You may install rally lights on the roof of your car, or get a hands-free bluetooth telephone receiver.

While the upgrades described above are geared for comfort, others are designed to give your vehicle an attractive veneer or a boost in performance. For example, new leather seats, shiny aftermarket rims, and window tints all make your car look more aesthetically appealing. On the other hand, a racing transmission, performance exhaust, and hi-flow air intake are designed for performance.

All of the above modifications should be reflected on your auto insurance policy. Otherwise, they are not likely to be covered. Worse, in some cases, a particular upgrade may render your policy null and void. That could be disastrous if you are involved in a traffic accident during which your vehicle is totaled.

Why Insurance Companies Refuse To Cover Souped-Up Vehicles

From the insurer’s perspective, a car that has been modified with expensive performance upgrades represents an enormous risk. It’s not uncommon for the owner of ,000 vehicle to spend an additional ,000 on modifications. This is problematic for car insurance companies for two reasons.

Firstly, performance parts and systems added to the vehicle often times cost more than the car itself. If the vehicle gets wrecked, the replacement value for all the upgrades would exceed the value value of the car.

Second, performance upgrades suggest the car’s owner has a propensity for racing or other similarly risky driving behavior. That elevates his (or her) risk class and implies a greater likelihood of a traffic accident.

Together these factors may prevent many insurance companies from offering coverage for highly modified cars. When a new policy is extended, or an existing policy is appended, it typically comes with limitations and higher rates.

Limitations When Insuring A Modified Vehicle

Many auto insurance companies are willing to cover cars that have been upgraded with modified parts… for a price. Their primary concern is the likelihood of a claim. To that end, they will usually cap the number of miles you’re allowed to drive each year and place additional restrictions on the type of driving you do – for example, racing. Such policies will often restrict policyholders to driving less than a certain number of kilometers throughout the year.

The replacement cost reflected in these type of policies is based on an agreed upon value or a stated value. The former is a number that is negotiated between you and the insurer. In the event of a loss, the insurer agrees to pay the negotiated value. The latter is also a negotiated number. The difference is that the insurer agrees to pay the lesser of the stated worth or fair market valuation in the event of a claim.

Can You Find Better Coverage With Lower Rates?

As you might expect, your auto insurance premiums will normally be much higher for a souped-up vehicle. Moreover, many insurers will refuse to cover some types of modifications. There’s no time like the present to shop for the insurance your require at the rates your can afford. When you contact your insurer to update your policy with recent upgrades, determine the effect those upgrades will have on your premiums. Then, look online for lower car insurance rates.

Many people don’t believe they have time to comparison shop for the best package (i.e. open coverage options, a better service, and lower insurance premiums.). You may find that doing so uncovers surprisingly attractive deals.

The Truth and Lies About Your Car Insurance

If you are a newbie in insurance policies, it is best to be educated on the subject. There are many myths and realities in dealing with insurance companies. It is necessary for you to have a general idea about such insurance rates so that you won’t have problems later on.

Car insurance is needed by people who want to be assured that their cars won’t experience distress, especially when the time comes and they get into an accident or anything else. There are things in this world that you have to be aware and to prepare for. This is why it is vital to assess and choose the most affordable and most reasonable price for your car insurance.

Hence, it is true that the insurance quotes reflect the cost of certain automobile- related expenses. In fact, there are many explanations on how the increasing cost of such insurances is accumulated.

Each year millions of people get into car accidents that involve personal injury. With this type of incidents, the typical price range of such treatment is around ,000 to ,000. Thus, this can easily turn into tens of thousands of dollars, depending on the type of car.

This problem is actually joined by the trouble of increasing claims of automobile injury, which are currently as much as 30 % in some states. These dilemmas can turn into the new car insurance holder’s burden of additional payments or premiums.

Moreover, another reason for this is the legal expenses that the company needs to pay due to the fact that an average jury award for vehicular liability cases are continuing to rise and can put up the pressure on auto insurance rates.

An average liability can cost from about 7,000 up to 9,000. This was the estimated record from the year 1994 up to the year 2000, respectively. Thus, the number one cause of death for people ages 1 up to 34 is car accident.

According to the United States Department of Transportation, these deaths cost more than 0 billion annually. People who are under the use of prohibited drugs, alcohol abuse, high- speed driving and are not using a seat belt are the leading people who are at risk of such an accident. Auto repair has also increased because of the rapid advancing age of technology, along with construction and design that have now become a must in this era. Automotive innovations and repair costs have increased tremendously and thus, higher car insurance may ensue because of this.

Hence, there is a notion that red cars cost more insurance. This is not true. Colour is never a determinant factor in calculating one’s car insurance rate. The factors that are important are the year, model, body, type, engine size and the age of the car. Even if you have a cheap car but you have a large engine, or it is an unusual model, it might cost a lot to have it insured as compared to a more expensive small car.

Then again, you will pay for a lesser amount in comprehensive coverage, which can cover the damage that is usually brought about by vandalism, hail, fire or even animal accidents. There is also a case, in which, two speeding tickets can make your car insurance rate go up.

Plus, it is also not true that every car insurance company can charge anyone on any way they please. Despite the increasing expenses of this company, they still have a way of covering all the damages and they also have regulators that review their customer rates.

It is also important to take note of the amount of your car, where in, it’s insurance will most likely have a relative cost to. This is due to the fact that some companies shoulders only a minimum amount and will not cover certain accidents. Of course, this will result into a lawsuit but they will not include all the damages. So, it is wiser to read your terms and conditions.

Thus, if someone drives your car and there is an accident, you will still be the one held responsible. You will be financially responsible for the accident. In most states, the car insurance that covers the accident is considered the primary insurance holder, which means that the insurance company is the one that should pay for the damages. Hence, there are cases that it is not enough and the driver’s insurance is the next in line to pay for the remaining damages. This is primarily why you need to know the car insurance policy in your state, as well as the laws that go hand in hand with it. States and even countries differ in policies politically and geographically.

Aside from this, there are also other factors that are being considered for car insurance rates. Of course, your rate won’t be the same as that of your neighbours. Your age, nature of your work, driving record, type of vehicle and marital status are all considered. This can really vary depending on the company’s standards. Sometimes, your charge can go down when you turn 25 because this is the time when car accidents go down. The extremes of ages, like that of a teenager and that of the forty year old individual is where the accident rate is at its highest.

Lastly, there is a so called rental reimbursement that can cover and pay for your rental car. This is for cases, wherein, you are on vacation and you just rented a car that resulted into an accident. This will help drivers pay for the damages to the car but this still depends on the limits you selected. Having more than one insurance policy is not really money- saving technique. In fact, it is more expensive. Most of the time, you can save your money by getting the best rate available in one company. Thus, if you want different types of insurance like that of the auto and homeowners insurance, you can look for another company that can give you the best deal. At times, you will get better deals from different insurance companies.

Car insurance is a way of preparing yourself for some stressful moments while driving your car. Getting one doesn’t mean that you are already assuming that you will encou7nter car theft or car accidents. Getting car insurance is a lot like accepting the reality that these things happen and that it is best to be prepared. This is better than not having a car insurance at all and end up paying more, just because you decided is best not to have one. Since car insurances these days have death or disability insurance for the driver or owner of the car, it is a lot like caring for your family and loved ones by leaving them with nothing to worry about.
Since there are many car insurance agencies these days, it is best to assess each one and check which has been in the industry for a long time. You can also check with friends for referrals. This is actually the best thing to do as compared to believing in advertisements and flyers.
