How to get water out of my car seat?

We had to take our back car seat out of the car the other day, of course it rained while the seat was in our back yard. It’s not leather, but that regular "car fabric". We tried blow driers but that won’t work. We need the car seat dry by tonight, because we’re going on a road trip. Any suggestions?

Chenille Is the Ultimate Baby Fabric

Chenille Is the Ultimate Baby Fabric

Chenille is a form of weaving that results in one of the softest textures of all. Tapestries made from chenille require delicate handling, but are tactilely interesting and more touchable than any other type of tapestry.

Chenille is actually the French word for caterpillar. The word in common parlance is used now to describe the type of fabric; in this case, for the procedure by which it is made.

Chenille is manufactured by wrapping short lengths of fabric, called “piles,” around a tightly wound core of yarn. When the edges of these piles stand at right angles from the yarn’s core, the chenille gains its soft, characteristic texture and appearance. Chenille can even look iridescent at times. It commonly is manufactured from cotton, but versions using acrylic, rayon and olefin exist and are not quite as easily damaged.

The process for making chenille is complex and must be done expertly for a strong thread that gives the appearance of being made from fine filaments. Good chenille thread can be used as needed for different applications – woven into fabric by whatever means necessary to produce throws, upholstery, carpets, rugs and wall hangings.

The History of Chenille

As well as textile historians can determine, chenille-type yarn first appeared on the scene sometime during the eighteenth century. Hand woven tapestries and throws of chenille quickly became popular due to the silky soft texture and near iridescence of the material. By the nineteenth century, the Jacquard loom had revolutionized the tapestry weaving industry, and Jacquard woven chenille wall hangings began to gain popularity.

The Art Nouveau movement gave a new look to the world of tapestry art. Reproductions of paintings in the stylistic form were easily translated to the loom, and many people opted for the warmer look of fabric wall hangings over the sterility of framed prints. Mass production on mechanized looms has made these works of art readily available.

The idealized figures, detailed backgrounds and decorative borders of Art Nouveau done in soft chenille thread makes these tapestries a perfect addition to almost any home. The decor can be as lush or as modernistic as desired – tapestries are the perfect fit for every type of interior layout. For those who prefer a more Renaissance style feel, castles and coats of arms lend a medieval flavor to a room.

Soft or Bold – Chenille Tapestries Cover all Styles

Francois Boucher was a noted French painter who specialized in religious and pastorally themed art; his works translate smoothly to the woven medium and are often reproduced in chenille. His rococo paintings featuring idyllic landscapes and romantic scenes are the favorite of many designers looking for a Louis XV influence. One or more of these tapestries can easily be used as the inspiration behind study, library or parlor.
For those who prefer a more focused attraction, a tapestry illustrated with a bird, butterfly or even a piece of fruit can provide contrast to minimalist furniture and neutral colors. These subjects provide a splash of color that draws the eye and brings a sense of the outside world into an austere room. The use of chenille to soften sharp edges in otherwise stark surroundings can completely alter the mood of the space! It suddenly makes the room touchable and friendly, even if your choice of furnishings and colors are somewhat cool.

Simpler patterns come across nicely in chenille as well. Celtic designs are favorites of many interior decorators, providing a vast array of motifs and colors to choose from. These tapestries will work well in almost any setting, and provide a nice backdrop to a busy room. French designs have a more floral appearance, with stylized images on a contrasting background. Native American motifs are becoming more popular as well, with bold colors and geometric designs.

Hanging Chenille Tapestries

Hanging properly is very important with chenille tapestries – a solid pocket sewn across the back and reinforced with sturdy fabric is best, as chenille can stretch and hang awkwardly if individual hanging loops are used. An ornate rod may be desired to complement the natural beauty of these tapestries, and can be hung on brackets. Choose a style that will complement the tapestry itself – a heavy rod for bold graphics or a more delicate one for softer designs.

Chenille is the perfect medium for tapestries; this textile makes your wall hangings even more unique and you are sure to receive plenty of compliments. Consider exploring the soft and silky side of wall art the next time you are inspired to do a room makeover!

Do YJ Jeeps (1989) have soft tops that fold down?

We recently got my son a 1989 Jeep YJ with a hard top with full doors. With summer coming along he of course now wants a soft top. First of all, any suggestions on what kind/model, etc. to get? We have looked at several stores on the internet and it is pretty confusing with all the different ones available. I believe we will have to buy the hardware (poles) for the top and the fabric cover (actual top) both. Does this fold down or will it have to be taken off just like the hard top each time he wants to go without a top? If this is the case, wouldn’t a bikini top work better because of the portability and price? His has the standard front roll bar behind the front seats but not another one in the very back as we have seen in many pictures. I don’t really know much about Jeeps or any other automobile for that matter – so I’d appreciate any help or guidance you could provide. Thanks! Jeanne

Has anyone had problems with the upholstery on their RAV4? Mine’s a 2008 model.?

The upholstery on the door panel and the front seats of my 2008 RAV4 started pilling and fuzzing at 3 months and 5500 miles. Have finally gotten Toyota to give the dealer new seat covers, but has anyone else had this problem? I’m hoping it was just a bad batch of fabric and that the new covers will be just fine.

Need advice on kid-proof seat covers.?

I purchased a 07′ ford focus which has a seemingly cheep interior. I was wanting to find a seat cover for my backseat to keep my baby from ruining the fabric. I thought about just using a blanket but thought there might be a better solution. Any ideas.

What is the best car seat cover material for dogs?

I’m looking to buy some cheap car seat covers. I have dogs that shed a lot and I’m looking for something to protect the seats and to pull off when I have people in the car. I have found 4 possible covers I have found from ebay. I’m wondering if their claws will mark up leather like material very quickly and leave lots of marks. I’m also looking for something that will keep me and the dogs a bit cooler in the summertime. I’d rather not sweat or stick to the seat. I also need something that is easy clean up as the dogs can get dirty/muddy. Examples of what I have found:

1. These are a rich soft simulated leather material. Softer and more durable than plastic or vinyl. They will not fade or get sticky. They are waterproof and clean easily. They Look and feel like leather.(will these get scratch marks easily?)

2. These are a soft cloth velour material. Much softer than leather or vinyl. COOL IN SUMMER WARM IN WINTER (these are not custom. They’re listed for my car but I hear they are harder to fit due to the non stretch of the fabric) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2003-2004-2005-2006-2007-Mazda-6-CAR-SEAT-COVERS-VE_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1205Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318Q7c301Q3a0Q7c293Q3a1Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem58800a6ddbQQitemZ380105289179QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

3. Synthetic Leather similar to vinyl but softer than vinyl on seating areas of seat covers. Front buckets will have a stretchy polyester backside (the part you see from the rear seat of the vehicle) that will help conform the seat cover nicely to the molds of the seats. (not sure if this is any different from #1 or #4) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CAR-SEAT-COVERS-2003-2004-2005-MAZDA-6-RACING-03-04-05_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1205Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318Q7c301Q3a1Q7c293Q3a1Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem3a47937b30QQitemZ250308950832QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

4. These are the original FR racing Z – covers. The Z – Fabric is a synthetic soft breathable Fabric. Molds and conforms to seat like no other cover. Cool in summer warm in winter. NOT like leather or vinyl. Machine washable. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2003-2004-2005-2006-2007-Mazda-6-CAR-Seat-Covers-Z_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1205Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318Q7c301Q3a0Q7c293Q3a1Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem587ff942d2QQitemZ380104164050QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
