Help!?!? My insurance is going to cover damage from my water heater…but this is what they say! Adjuster?
Ok, so our hot water heater, which is only 8 years old, sprung a leak this weekend. This flooded our basement 4 inches from wall to wall. Well, we were told to clean it out, and we did throw out a few items due to space issues. We had to get to the basement floor to drain it. We took photos of these items. Well they don’t want to cover them (dvd’s and clothing) because they cannot see them, but in order to get the basement cleaned out we had to throw SOME out. I did keep, wash, dry and fold over 300 pieces of clothing and put them into bins after. But about 100 pcs were just soaked and the color was running into the box. The dvd’s, I have 2000, about 300 were damaged and soaked, so we took a photo of the box that was soaked (filled with dvd’s) and then discarded them to be able to make room to clean. They say they aren’t covering them.
The other question, what about my electronics? My treadmill, 2 air conditioners, my Kirby Vaccum system, and my sons Clamshell Apple Ibook was down there …on the bottom storage shelf. THey are STILL there (treadmill on the floor) But were in 4 inches of water. I didn’t throw them out because I figured these were the things they would want to see. Anyway, they are trying to say that they can be "dried" out, and should function fine. I pay ALOT for my REPLACEMENT cost policy, and I feel like they are being awful. We spent 9 hours with shop vacs, and pumps draining our basement ourselves, and had people help us move things, wash dry and fold the clothing, and all in an effort to be as cooperative with them as possible…What can I expect for the items that are in the basement still that were filled with water???
Treadmill
Air Conditioners
Crib Mattress
Breast Pump
Computer
One Twin Size Mattress
One boxspring
Baby swing
Car seat
Beanie Babies (yes I know!!) with tag protectors
??????????????????
Our water heater has records of being checked yearly, and it seems that the gasket cracked and leaked. The water heater itself is in great shape. That is why. In order for my DVD’s to be in the same state they were before (which is what insurance is for) they would have to purchase new hard cases with slipcovers. WHICH you cannot do. My DVD’s are a collection and are usually the two disc copies. I have reciepts for ALL of these BTW.
Apple Ibook or not, it IS what is down there.
I have photos from all the damaged items, I don’t expect them to pay for each dvd, but I would like to replace as many as I can.
I have the manuals for the electronics…
