My parents recently bought me a 1995 318i BMW. I like it but the dash area where the radio is and between the driver/passenger seats (where the parking break/shifter is) looks really dated. I was wondering if I could replace those parts to look like the ones on newer models- as the exterior/seats/carpet are in fantastic shape. In addition, the area behind the steering wheel (I know I sound dumb- I don’t know the names!) that shows your speed/gas etc… can that also be replaced? And lastly I know I can get the white light bulbs for my headlights… but can I get new covers over the bulbs to give the car a newer look? Thanks for any info!
Also if you know or can approximate the price of each of these things plus how much it will cost to be installed:

1. Dash / between seats area
2. Behind the wheel
3. White lights/ new light covers

*sorry for any typos! I’m writing this on my phone. Thanks again for any info!

The only thing I don’t like is the seats, they are bright red leather. Is there ANY way I can just change them, I believe taking them out would cost a lot of money, so should I just buy seat covers? That may get a little too hot in the summer since I live in Vegas. Please help!

Hi My 2000 BMW 323ci has been a fantastic car, but I bought it almost 10 years ago. In 10 years of ownership, I’ve raised a boy since from 2 to 12, so there’s been quite a bit of wear inside! Can anyone tell me what the little sliding door is called that covers the storage spot between the two front seats? Also, can I repair, panit or replace the steering wheel buttons that have had the paint rubbed off, or would that require an entirely new wheel?
Here is a pic of the "little sliding door" between the seats, and also where it was before it came off:

Here, you can see the paint rubbed of the steering wheel buttons:

Thanks so very much for your help! I will choose a best answer quickly!

Hi everyone,

Today I was driving home on the highway after spending a few days up north, and out of nowhere, started hearing a strange banging / clanging noise that would happen sporadically and at random intervals.

I pulled over after noticing it, and took a look inside the engine for anything loose. Couldnt spot anything. Looked under the car, noticed a small drip right below the drivers seat– looks like coolant from the heater pump, but not 100% sure. I have a heater pump problem that my mechanic bypassed until I can fully replace it, but it’s nothing vital. No noise up until now. So what is it?

Continued driving home, and on the residential roads didnt notice any noise. Parked my car, checked back after an hour or so– no leaks under the car at all. So, I am stumped. Maybe it wasnt coolant, just condensation? Maybe it’s not the heater pump at all? Anyone have any insight on this?

Hi. I’m a college student and my parents are helping me with purchasing my first car. They are paying for it and I will be paying them back over time. Sounds perfect right? Not quite. I’m very picky about vehicles and our maximum spending range is 00. I live in Madison, WI so the market is fairly limited. My parents say it needs to be within 75 miles so if it breaks down we can take it back to be covered by warranty.

All reasonable but the problem is, like I said, I’m very picky about cars. The way I look at it, this is an investment, and the only car I will be using until I am financially independent. Anyways these are the criteria that must be met:
1) black or silver
2) have a cd player
3) be luxury (power everything, leather seats, heated seats preferred etc.)
4) look nice [the only cars i like are sedans or coupes, cadillac (not catera), bmw, lexus (don't really like ES and no others are readily available in my price range), or mercedes (don't like c-class)]

So, thats a lot of information.
I’ll summarize.

I want a car, ideally a black Cadillac STS with a cd player and heated seats, but it tends to only come in V8.

I actually found a 2003 STS with a V6, but it only costs 00. My parents, and I’m a bit skeptical as well, are convinced theres something horribly wrong with it. Is there a way to get the dealer to be honest? HA! Or is it really that great of a buyers market?!

I search every day on craigslist, cars.com, and the local newspaper.

I either need to convince them a V8 will be acceptable, or find a car that both parties can agree on.

Advice? (Don’t tell me not to be so picky, if I’m spending money, I need to like it!!!)

I was in my school parking lot and i was on the outer edge and trying to get out. A car on the side of me (facing toward me) decides to try to go out the other way. The road wasn’t big enough but it was too late and they had hit me pretty badly. My car needs a new back door and the front door needs to be fixed as well. A lot of small things have to be touched up afterwards because it is a BMW. The police were involved and the other driver had a full car who saw it all and my friend was in the passenger seat and saw it coming. When the cop came i gave them my license, my registration, and an expired insurance card and said my new one at home (so original) But the thing is, is that i do not have insurance, but the other drive does, its AAA insurance. So two questions here. Is it a bad idea to give them the fake insurance [(not even to my bmw but to my moms mini van) the cop did notice it wasn't to my car] And will her insuarnce cover my vehicle? give me some advise please
