Please Help! 1993 Grand Am The rear speaker Removal & Replacment?
I have A 1993 Grand Am & The rear speakers are bad And need to be removed & replaced but it cannot be done from the trunk area like most cars, so I then went to back seat to remove them from the inside, But I ran into A problem that I dont have the answer to there is A panel that sits on top of the speakers the one directly infront of the rear window & covers the two speakers it seems impossable to remove without taking out the whole back seat, rear window side panels, the seat belt restrants & who knows what else, somthing tells me GM wouldn’t require all this just to replace two bad speakers, Can sombody please help me with this by providing me with detailed instructions on how to replace two 6×9 rear speakers on A 1993 Pontiac Grand Am without taking out the whole rear rear seat & ruining my car in the process. has anybody had to replace these rear speakers in this car if so how did you accomplish this because I cant figure it out? Thank you for any help you can provide me.

you do need to pull out the seat and anything else that is in the way to get the rear deck out so that you can access the screws that hold the 6x9s in. if your patient an have the right tools (18mm socket for the seat bolts) it’s not that bad. or you can go to a local car stereo shop and for about 85.00 to 125.00 they can do it for you. tip: install the new speakers from the bottom and screw them up to the rear deck. this way you won’t have to go though this again. also if your wondering it is very common for manufacturers to have rear speakers top loaded like yours. the factory knows that by the time the rear speakers are bad and need changed the car will be long out of warranty.

If I remember you DO have to remove the rear seat as well as some of the rear window plastic pieces to get access to remove the rear deck. Not as hard as it sounds however, if you don’t have the proper tools or knowledge seek a professional shop.
