How to change the lug nut studs on a 1989 Ford F250 (manual locking hubs)?
I am trying to replace the studs, as they are broken. To do this the hub has to be removed. I have the cover off and I have removed the snapring. the next step is to "Remove the lock ring seated in the groove of the wheel hub". I can’t figure out how to do this. I’m not a mechanic and am trying to do this job myself. Can anyone help me?

either get a manual for the vehicle or goto Autozone.com and see if they have a free repair guide online for this vehicle.

You shouldn’t have to remove the hub. There should be an area behind the hub that’s open enough to drive the broken studs out with a hammer and a punch. Then to pull the new ones though use a lug nut and tighten it till it pulls it though

there is a snap ring that requires either snap ring pliers or a good pair of needlenose. reach in to the 2 loops and compress the ring. if it is not an eyelet style use a small "L" pick to lift it and get behind it with a second toll. at that point you can walk around the edge and pop it out. not really that hard but be patient. it will take a few tries if you are not familiar with this stuff.

if you dont have the socket then hammer and a punch but id try to go rent a tool
