Help choosing SQ sub.Hear me out before you pass judgement. Some variables to be considered!Boston A or Alpine?
Ok,as some of you may or may not know,Im going for more of a sound quality set up.I have a 2007 dodge Quad cab…I have opted to go with Boston Acoustic pro components. The problem I have is Im going to use a prefab box that fits under the back seat.About 1 cu.ft per chamber.I was originally going to use Alpine Type R 10" because I have a pair not being used(brand new).I figured that since they would be covered or under the seat, sound quality would be affected regardless of what sub I use. So,logically I thought they would be an ok choice…(dont know if my assumptions are correct)BUT now Im having second thoughts…what do you think?I was thinking about Boston Acoustic 10"…not sure which models ,as I dont have listening experience with ANY NEWER model BA’s.I have a 2 channel amp I will be using thats 1000 watts bridged(around about) or aproximate 475 x 2 @ 2 ohms…Its a Rockford Fosgate punch 150 limited edition 25 to life amp in case you were wondering.Any recommendations?
Thanks Wquigley,I also have the punch 45 edition and fixing to get the 75 edition…Also have the OLDSCHOOL MODEL punch 75 and 1 punch 75HD and 2 punch 45hd and 1-punch 150 older models. All are sold except 2 punch 75′s ![]()
Also Erck…what is the sound quality of the memphis.Im not looking for SPL or mad bass.I listen to alternative rock…
MDC I know that the subs wont sound the same…thats what makes my decision so difficult…I have never heard ANY SUB IN THAT BOX SET UP before? So Im shooting blind here.I couldnt really tell you how the sound will be affected being under the rear seat?I was going to get the rear console set up which fits in between, but I would lose 1 seating space and I have kids.Need the extra room and not to mention they would probably hit the exposed sub

go with the alpine and the seat should not affect your sound at all.
by the way, nice amp.

I’ve already gone through this whole scenario before so relax! Go with Memphis audio. This is the only ten i’ve yet to blow. I blown every other kind you can think of. Since they are facing the rear of the cab, under the seat, they get extremely hot, an tend to blow(voice coils burning). So if you want a choice between the two you listed, go with Alpine. Two reasons, it lasted longer than the than the B.A. An second it didnt sound so bad after it was blown. Hook a fan up to circulate air under your seat, an for your amp too. However I’ve had my memphis 10′s for two years now, an no probs or complaints. I listen to a lot a screw, an slab.

I personally think the Boston’s sound better for SQ. That is the thing about sound though, everyone has their own taste about what they think sounds good. That is why the best advice is to see if you can hear the equipment before you buy it. That is not always easy to do but sometimes it is going to pay off. You should also take into consideration that it won’t sound exactly the same as when it is in your car/truck so you don’t want to bass too much on that.
Erck, I wouldn’t brag about blowing every sub you’ve had. That means that you have either setup systems that overpower the sub or you have not set your gain properly.

I vote for the ATR’s…..heard ‘em, love ‘em…btw nice amps!

Well, the 10" Bostons only require .5cubic feet per sub, so they would drop REAL LOW. If you go them, you’d have to be VERY careful on how much power you give them. When subs are in enclosures that’re too large, they move a lot further, so power handling must be reduced.
The Bostons will go real low, sounding great the whole way, and the TypeR’s will sound okay.
My vote is still for the Boston Acoustics. I’m partial to them since I got my G51044 with GTR.
