Good buy on 1999 Jeep Wrangler?
I am getting ready to sign the paperwork on a 1999 Jeep wrangler, just wanted to see if anyone thinks this is a bad idea.
1999 Jeep Wrangler Sport
4.0
6 cyl
66700 miles, 5 speed, 4 wheel drive
Just had transmission replaced
Has soft top and half doors
No visible rust spots, except for on undercarriage.
Towing package, cd player, Sound system in roll-bar, new windshield wipers, relatively new tires. 75% of brakes left.
The drivers side seat has a few cracks in the vinyl but I’ll be getting a cover for it.
Thanks for any input!!
oops! I meant to add the price on here…
It is ,500.
I personally love manual tranny, and I will be towing a yamaha jet-ski with it.

The only thing I can say is that it is Manual Trans. I hate that. Plus if you ever want to sell it, you won’t get as much money because of the manual trans. How much are you paying for it???

I know a jeep is a jeep and very unique and if you like a wrangler its hard to find a more reliable car or truck that you like…but jeep has HORRIBLE reliability! If you like jeep then yes its a good deal but dont expect it to be a toyota or honda when it comes to working.
If you take me up on my idea my suggestion would be a 4runner. Its a little different but you get the reliability, towability, speakers, and the backwindow rolls down to be more like a jeep.

only thing is jeeps ruin bad they’re loud bumpy rides no fun you could probably get a jeep for less than 10000….manual is fun at first but then it gets annoying after a while its fun until you hit the city and realize u don’t make it past 2ND gear and u hear the strain on the engine

I would be a little hestitant just because if has had the transmission replaced at 66,700 miles which tells me they were ripping around in it cause i have seen Jeeps with 100,000+ on them on the same transmission. It also tells me that is the they were that hard on the transmission, how hard were they on the engine? I would say if you are really interested in it do yourself a favor and get a carfax report.

Pros: fun, econimical, never out of style
Cons: lots of road noise, stiff suspension.

Not a bad buy if the trans is good and the miles are the actual vehicle miles (not just miles from the new trans). Jeeps hold their value well. Despite what others have said on here, Jeeps are actually long lasting vehicles if properly maintained. They are very simple mechanically. They are one of the most reliable and dependable 4 wheel drive vehicles.
