Do you blanket your sub to deter thieves?
I just purchased a system today and had it installed. My deck has a removable faceplate, but I am still very paranoid about my amp and sub. I feel if someone who wants to rob my stereo sees there is no faceplate, they can pretty much assume I am protecting something. I am also worried that if they see my sub in the back (I have a Jeep, so it’s visible), they will know I have an amp under the seat and rip it all out. So, do you think covering the sub with a blanket is a good idea, or what? I live in a safe area, but there have actually been 8 robberies within the last 2 months.
krekatt, you’re just pure scum.

I would say your best bet is to make sure you have a functional car alarm. Secondly, make sure the amp and the box are both securely fastened in the bed of your Jeep some how, perhaps some cheap L brackets, whatever. Granted that might not deter a pro thief who really wants your gear, but it probably *will* deter the schmoe who is just looking for a quick score smash and grab, at least a hell of a lot more than a blanket would.

what i do with all of my cars with a system is bolt the sub and amps down with big star head bolts most theavs dont have the tools on them to get it lose

i have been ripped off and sadly to say i have ripped others off and honestly i felt worse about my thefts, the idea is my friend was a car burglar and taught me the tricks, often it was just walking down a street and looking in every car for items.
often unlocked doors w/ no alarms and a visible piece was best, if locked a broken winow for a sure thing.
so yes a blanket is a great idea.
often people do not carry tools so you could put 2 eye bolts in the box and chain it to the cars chassis, the amp is difficult to remove cause of the screws and heavy wires.
thieves want to be finished in less then 1 minute, an alarm is good if it will work with your jeep but otherwise keep the cranking down close to home odeterrentyou will park, every 30 seconds is a deturrent for theft so make it harder for them.
i had an 800.00 deck stolen and i was less then 100ft. away, i heard the glass break and the car run away and 1 minute later checked it out and my pullout was pulled out.

Honestly, I would get dark/limo window tints on all the back windows to prevent prying eyes. And basically make the system as hard to steal as possible, Use metal straps, bolt everything down, make it harder for the thief to steal, he wont wanna sit there for 5 minutes trying to get something out. Backstrap the head unit to the dash, use "security screws" on the amp, and be creative with the sub.
Kreekat, you totally deserved to have your HU stolen haha.
And NEVER roll around your hood bumping the music. You will just be advertising that you have a system. Also, never put on car audio brand stickers on your car. We used to call them "steal me stickers".
